New Delhi: Climate activist Sonam Wangchuk has joined the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) protest at Jantar Mantar here, officially beginning a hunger strike.
The CJP has been holding a protest at the site since June 20, seeking the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over alleged irregularities in examinations, including the NEET Paper Leak case.
Before starting the hunger strike, Wangchuk and CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke visited Rajghat and paid tributes to Mahatma Gandhi.
At the protest site, Wangchuk was accompanied by hundreds of other protesters that included students, youth and farmer leaders. Dipke had in the past appealed to farmers, students and organisations to join the protest.
Dipke further stated on X on Sunday morning that several farmer leaders from Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Punjab were being placed under house arrest to prevent them from joining the protest at Jantar Mantar.
The CJP protest at Jantar Mantar has entered its eighth consecutive day on Sunday. The protesters demand the resignation of Pradhan as well as accountability from the union government against the backdrop of the alleged irregularities.
The CJP, which started as a satirical online campaign following remarks made by Chief Justice of India Surya Kant during a court hearing in May, has since evolved into an organised protest platform, gaining significant traction on social media.
